Review: Dresses from StyleWe

January 21, 2017

The internet is a wondrous thing and one of its many gifts to us is the ability to be able to buy clothes (and pretty much everything else) online. Like these dresses I'm reviewing today from StyleWe.

Had this technology existed in the mid 90s when I was still living in the country . . . I probably still would have been wearing the same stuff because I was on the dole and considered a 20 cent Freddo Frog a luxury. Anyway, I digress. My point is these days we have endless opportunity to shop for affordable clothing online anywhere from Werribee to Wirrabara but there are SO many sites out there and not all of them are quite what they seem.

When StyleWe got in touch to collaborate, I was a little sceptical that they were yet another online shopfront for a sketchy operation where the products cost less than a cup of coffee, show up two months later (if at all), bear little resemblance to the photo, are poorly constructed from tissue paper and with comical sizing.

I did a little research, checked out the site and felt like the higher prices gave it more legitimacy, so I decided to give them a go and report back for your benefit. I liked that the site allowed you to enter your measurements and then provided a size recommendation for each item - I have been burnt a couple of times in the past by not checking measurements, blindly ordering a medium as usual and getting something my daughter could fit into. I ended up being an XL but I don't take it personally, it is what it is when you're ordering from Asia.

Bearing this in mind, I deliberately selected two dresses that were of a relaxed fit to allow for any sizing anomalies.

First up, the AOFULI Casual Short Sleeve Tribal Folds A-Line Mini Dress. This is 100% cotton and a cool, lightweight fabric. The dress is a smock design but the cut and inverted pleats give it a flattering shape, while the beaded and embroidered detail around the neckline is a jazzy touch.

Next is the AIMILA Navy Blue Crew Neck Vintage Cotton Floral Mini Dress. This is also a 100% cotton dress that feels as comfortable as a flannel shirt, with long sleeves and a hi-lo hem. This will be a great transition piece that can then be worn with tights and boots in winter. I was able to wear it during a cooler summer day here in Adelaide and still be comfortable.

I had a great StyleWe experience and am happy and confident in recommending them to you. The items arrived as pictured and the materials and construction felt like decent quality. Each item came packaged nicely in its own ziplock bag with a Spend and Save coupon code for next time (always enticing). Standard shipping (7-12 days excluding processing time) is free over $60.

As with all online ordering, I beg you to do your research before buying from a new site. It pays to keep a few things in mind:
  • Read reviews (with a grain of salt as people often review only when they have a complaint) or ask friends, family or the online world if they have any experiences to share.
  • Check returns policies, shipping costs and processing times for your region.
  • Review your measurements against the size guide so you can be confident in ordering the right size.
Have you heard of StyleWe? Would you give them a go?
