Playtex Comfort Revolution Review + Giveaway

June 10, 2016

A little while ago, I decided I needed to update my bra situation.

This is what happened last time I tried to do such a thing but I figured this time it would be a lot easier.

WRONG.

Target no longer make my go-to t-shirt bra, instead replacing it with some cheap, saggy nightmare that actually creaks during wear. This is obviously unacceptable so for the first time in years I had to look elsewhere and I was scared. SCARED.

During the sales, I ducked in and out of various retailers, from discount big box stores to higher-end department stores. I found a clearance rack at Harris Scarfe and did a little gleeful dance as I snatched up handfuls of pretty, colourful and - most importantly when you're my size - CHEAP bras to try on and not one of them worked. Not. One. Thin straps, wobbly cups and a pathetic two hooks to keep everything together. Girl, I am a three-hook minimum, how very dare you.

This kind of thing infects me with the rage virus as I moved over to the full-priced area where a single granny-coloured boring old bra with minimising properties and full coverage was going for anywhere between $50 - $80. How is that even fair?

Oh, do shut up.

Anyway, around that time I commented on iCurvy's blog post about a wirefree bra from Playtex that she mentioned and from there, I was contacted to see if I'd like to try one myself.

WOULD I??

The Playtex Comfort Revolution SmoothTec bra, to give it its proper title, is designed for comfort, as the name suggests, and is actually wire-free. I know, bear with me. I wore wired bras all through pregnancy as the only other wirefree options presented were akin to tying a teatowel around my chest in terms of support. This one actually WORKS. And even better, it's currently on 30% off sale!

Sizing is S, M, L, XL, 2XL - I am generally a 12E to a 14DD and the medium was a good fit around the band. Behold the revolutionary "Smart Size" system:

Sadly though, the cup design meant I had too much side spillage, a problem I often find unless I have some serious structural engineering going on in the side panels.

When I gave this feedback to Playtex, they very kindly sent me the Comfort Revolution Swirl instead, which comes in traditional sizes. This is also non-wired and very comfortable. Although I would not wear it in situations where a more minimising silhouette was required, it makes for a great everyday bra around the house because when you're my shape, you rarely leave the bedroom without one, let alone the house.

I'll be honest, it's really difficult to get big bras to look cute in a flatlay. I expressed this thought to my now-real-life friend Kate from Loveface Beauty who reckoned I should get creative with melons, but then I'd have to eat them and I can't [elope] even. Black and white will have to do.
