Australis Reviews: AC On Tour Highlighting and Contouring Kit, Oh Hai Brow and more!
March 26, 2015A little while ago, I mentioned I had bought the Australis Cosmetics AC On Tour highlighting and contouring kit after seeing it on spesh at my local crack den Priceline. Not that you need it to be on special when it's at $16.95 full price, but a bargain is a bargain.
Then I needed an appropriate brush, which I managed to pick up at the recent 40% off sale at my local crack den Priceline along with some other goodies:
Side note: it gave me great pleasure to follow the #pricelinehaul hashtag on Insta and see so many products being scooped up by beauty lovers that I had bought or already had myself. I feel like this validates my choices!
I assembled some tools in my husband's bathroom (better light, don't you know) and set to work.
Here's my blank face.
Why does my snout always look like Stephen Fry's in these photos?? |
Here I am after applying a base of the new Maybelline Dream Wonder foundation which I had read a few reviews of recently. I haven't used liquid foundation for years but this has a lovely silky finish and I reckon I jagged the correct shade right off the bat.
The AC On Tour kit has a helpful guide on the back of the palette which is useful, however would have been better as an additional insert either in the palette or the accompanying box so I didn't have to keep turning it upside down to check the next step.
Here we are after following the guides, pre blending. Looking a little dirty.
And here we are after a bit of a blend.
Next stop, brows. I'm a recent convert to brow definition and, up until now, have been filling them in with a matte brown Almay eyeshadow.
The Oh Hai Brow! kit was was super easy to use. Tinted wax on (the brush), tinted wax off (onto your brows) then I used the lighter of the two fill-in shades and the highlighter underneath for a bit of definition.
Since I'm not very brow-y naturally, I don't tend to go too full-on for a day time look. Just a little colour and definition.
I then smashed on the Essence blush and the latest addition to my Australis Velourlips collection, NY-Cee (which looks a little full on for the rest of my face). Don't forget to enter my Insta comp at @beth_almostposh!
Finally, I went full ridiculousness trying another go of the Almay Intense i-Colour Shimmer-i palette. Still not feeling it.
I will have more of an experiment with the highlighting and contouring kit, I don't see me working this into my morning routine for an average work day but to go next level for an evening event, I can see definite potential. I need to watch a video tutorial and use a smaller brush for defining. I just wanted to show you what a rank amateur made of it straight out of the box . . . and the result is . . . I don't know, okay?

I was so tempted to pick up that foundation, but got the Models Prefer Argan foundation instead. I've heard so many great things about the Maybelline foundation.
ReplyDeleteOh it feels so nice on the skin, I'm really impressed! I've heard a lot about the Argan one too. Look forward to hearing how that goes.

ReplyDeleteThe AC on Tour kit is definitely next on my wish list of purchases from Priceline!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Monday Makeup Madness!
Yes, I need to give it another go and blend blend blend but I think the potential is there for anyone who actually knows what they're doing! Thanks for commenting :)
DeleteLooking gorgeous! Looks great and the bold lip really suits you! :) I recently picked up the AC kit too and have been playing with it constantly trying to perfect a combo that works best for me. It's a tricky task! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Candice! Yes, I'm looking forward to having another go and working the colours a bit better.
DeleteGreat job with the contouring! I finally picked up the much-hyped Australis kit during the latest 40% Priceline sale but haven't used it much yet. I must try the Dream Wonder foundation, Maybelline make great bases. :)
ReplyDeleteDi from Max The Unicorn
Definitely recommend Di! It feels amazing on the skin. I was so impressed especially having not worn liquid foundation for so long
DeleteIt took me forever to work out how to use the contour palette comfortably haha, so it takes practice! I think you did a great job and didn't go overboard at all! xx
